Growing Pumpkins with Myford Elementary!
On July 16th 2007 Myford Elementary Garden Club came down to Tanaka Farms to plant pumpkins. First they weeded the area that was ready to be planted. They then poked holes in the plastic so they can plant the seeds. They then put two seeds in each hole and covered them with soil. We will place pictures each week showing the advancement of the pumpkin plants.
Poking holes in the plastic to make room for the pumpkin seeds.

Planting the Pumpkin Seeds.
It's been 3 days and already the plants are germinated and showing above ground. I put the quarter there so you can tell the size of the plant. You can see the seed that we planted hanging on to the leaf.
Remember we planted two seeds in each hole. In this picture you can see two plants. When the plants get bigger we will pull one of the plants out.
WOW!!! It's been 10 days and look at the plants we planted. They look beautiful. Look how big the plant is compared to the quarter on the left. We still have the two plants in there together.
This is the rows of big pumpkins that were spread farther apart when we were planting. These plants will grow bigger and need the room to grow.
This is the rows of small pumpkins that were planted closer together. Look at all those plants.
Look how big are Pumpkin Plant is now. Look at the five dollar bill next to the plant. You can hardly see it because the plant has grown so large. See how much it has grown in 6 days since our last pictures.
This is a picture of the pumpkin plants that were planted closer together because they are smaller pumpkins. You can barely see the five dollar bill in the middle of the two plants.
You can barely see the silver plastic because the pumpkin plants are so close together.
It's been 11 days since our last pictures and look how big our plants have grown. Can you see the silver plastic?
Here is a close up picture of one of our plants. Pretty soon our plants will start to flower.
What a beautiful sight. Long rows of healthy pumpkin plants. Hopefully they will produce large pumpkins for us.
And two weeks later we have flowers. This yellow flower will soon turn into a big orange pumpkin hopefully.
Here we have a pumpkin but it is still green. It is not fully grown but hopefully by October it will be big and orange.
Some of our Pumpkin plants aren't doing so well. It's been really hot so they are starting to wilt and not look as healthy as they should be.
